My Maltese has alot of static in her hair. What can I do to help this?

My dog is groomed by a professional but during the week I brush her nightly. I have noticed that her hair just is full of static or very fly-away. Do I need to do something else. We are doing pictures for Christmas and want to have her hair just right. Any help?

Try a bit of hair spray.

maybe some fabric softener sheets or some hair spray

Use some of your cream rinse. It works for people so why wouldn't work for the dog.

Please do not put hair spray on a dog. Instead, use hair conditioner made for dogs that you can purchase inPetSmart. Hair spray will further dry out her hair and may also cause skin problems from clogging the skin pores.

Have you tried just rubbing her down with one of the sheets which you put in the dryer when drying your clothes? These reduce static and would probably make your dog smell sweet too. There are also anti static sprays which are used on dry clothing. If you used one of these I would rub it off later.

Put her coat in order. Cover her eyes and mist a bit of anti-static spray on her coat ONLY. Smooth it gently down; a kleenex dragges lightly across will help control strays.

Ask your groomer to use a conditioner or conditioning shampoo in future.

BioGroom makes a product for dogs that I use called Anti Stat

You could try a conditioner for dogs also there is spray you can get from the pet shop that is good for static. Your dogs hair is dry that's why it is doing that.

Static guard sprayed onto the brush or comb, although you can spray her/his hair directly. My Shih Tzu hates the smell and will rub her face on the floor after I have sprayed her, even if I haven't been anywhere near her face. The canister says can be used on hair.

Hello,

Ok professional dog groomer of 11yrs here with some advice. I'd advise against hairspray.

You can use a product for horses called "show sheen"

(you can find it in and tack/horse store or in Petsamrts with a horse section.

It is fantastic for Maltese hair to keep "fly aways" down and to keep the hair from matting.

Spray a little (a little goes a loooong way) in her hair and use a comb to comb it thorugh, you could use your blow dryer (set to a cool setting ) to dry it quickly. This will shine up her hair, make it silky and lessen the static.

(be sure to not spray the show sheen on a slick floor as it will make it slippery)

On her head you could use small amounts of Dep styling gel or the hair over her eyes but dont get it in her eyes or use too much as it will make her hair look clumpy.
