Is it ok to wash curly/wavy hair everyday?

If I don't and I try to brush/comb it in the morning then it breaks and is very dry. So, I wash it everyday with just a conditioner. Then, once the product builds up I use a shampoo. Is this ok?

- You should not brush curly hair dry because it will immediately poof and it damages your hair. It is fine to wash your hair every day with just conditioner.

-Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate). They dry out curly hair.

- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse. It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair. Then let your hair air dry or use a blowdryer with a diffuser.

- I really like the garnier fructis sleek and shine leave in cream and Tressemme clean hold gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. Frizz-ease hair serum is pretty good for fighting frizz. Try using a shampoo that does not contain sodium laureth sulfate, coco betaine is a gentle cleanser, if you must use shampoo for product buildup.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

for product buildup:

LEMON AID

'More clarifying and cleansing than any shampoo, this moisturizing and neutralizing tonic adds shine to your hair and removes buildup. It's especially good for very dry or damaged hair.'

Combine juice of 1 large lemon* with your usual amount of conditioner, then rinse through hair thoroughly.'

NOTE: A lot of people find 1/2 a lemon is enough as for some this can be drying. Also, for best results it should be thoroughly rinsed out with cool water and followed by regular conditioning.

*Lime and even grapefruit juice may be used.

WATTACURL WANTS (Baking soda rinse)

'The baking soda will remove heavy product buildup and leave your hair feeling shiny and clean.'

1 Tbsp. baking soda

1 cup warm water

Combine above ingredients in a plastic applicator bottle and shake or mix well in a plastic cup, pour through thoroughly water rinsed hair (or after a conditioner wash), allow to sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse off first with lukewarm water then cool, condition and style as usual.

it is actually a very good thing to do. :) you are doing the right thing, but do not let conditioner build up too much..

also try leave-in conditioner for curly hair.

My hair is wavy and i wash it every other day. On the day i dont wash it I do get it wet on the shower then put a leave in conditioner in it and it usually looks better than when i do wash it.

Okay, I know my answer will never compete with the answer above, but I am totally going through the same problem....

Okay, once you start the everyday routine, you get so into it, its a hard habit to break. Because if you don't wash it, it will be all frizzy and hard to comb, but if you do wash it (everyday) Your hair gets thinner from scrubbing and combing so hard. To get rid of my problem, i result to just wetting my hair days between washes. It makes my hair easier to comb, and I'm noting ruining it. Also, try putting in hair moisturizer.
