I heard that this isn't good for the hair. Why? I always do because I have longish hair and it's always all over the place when I come out of the shower.

brushing or combing hair while wet can stretch the strands and cause breakage, when I had past-my-butt long hair, I'd put it up in an extremely loose bun type thing till it was almost dry, then use a hair pick or my fingers to make sure I was tangle-free before brushing, it gave my hair a little extra body too

Brushing your hair when wet is bad especially for longer hair. Sorry I'm going to get a bit technical here. The reason for this is because the hair is made up of different types of bonds some of these bonds are broken with water and heat (these reform when dryed), the other ones are with chemicals. So when your hair is wet it is in a weaker state, therefore brushing it can damage it or even break some of the hair off, and it can also cause the hair to split. The best thing to do is comb it only when wet. But if you find it knots up brush it before you wash (on dry hair). When you get out the shower maybe use some leave in moisturizer and an Afro comb to comb out the knots. I hope this info helps you.
