As for as I know I am fully African American, but I have the strangest hair. For instance, I cant go along time w/o washing it bc it will look ams have that oily smell. I also cant use very many african american products or my hair will be very limp. When I blow dry it comes out relatively straight, it is just very thick, however there are not any naps or kinks. The strangest thing is that if I wash it and I dont blowdry my hair will be curly. Kind of like the curls that Eva the Diva, *black chic from America's Next Top Model* What is up with this? It can be straight, when I blow dry it, curly when I air dry it and wavy if I dry it, but if run some warm water over a hair brush. WHat is wrong with my hair?!?
Why is it that when I air dry my hair it is curly?
It seems to me that you have naturally wavey-curly hair which is why it will frizz and curl, and wave when you dry it off with a hair dryer or just naturally. When you use a brush and a dryer or a straightener it will flatten out your curl and give you straightened hair but it will remain thick if you have coarse hair or a lot of it.
There's nothing wrong with your hair, you just need to learn how to style it. If you can't use products specifically designed for African-Americans then choose another product that has been designed with your hair type in mind - slightly oily on the roots (maybe dry at the ends?). If it is dry on the ends, buy a leave in conditioner also.

It's just you're natural texture. Why is that strange?

My hair is similar to yours. If I let it air dry, it is extremely wavy and curly underneath. If I blow dry it, it's less wavy but still quite coarse and extremely frizzy. I have to iron it straight to make it look good. I am White but my hair doesn't know it. I have super thick hair that is hard to work with. It's also very long right now too but I'm thinking about cutting it so it doesn't take 2 hours to straighten it. No one really knows your hair like you do. My mom bugs me about fixing my hair more because it looks so crazy sometimes. I'm 28 years old and have lived with my crazy hair all my life. When I was younger it was just wavy, not curly and frizzy like it is now.

Nothing is wrong with your hair. This is just your natural hair texture, work with it, not against it. BTW, african americans have all sort of hair textures, and you don't have to be a light skinned brother or sister to have a less kinky hair texture. I am dark skinned and I have curlly hair, that is pretty easy to manage and I wash my hair every 3 days.
I don't see the problem. You have 3 natural styling options, and your hair does what you want when you want it .
